Colts seek amends v Marist

With his side flying high at the moment, Colts skipper Josh Topliss is confident his men can trouble league leaders Marist on Saturday at the Bunbury Recreation Ground. Although there is never any shortage of motivation when these two proud clubs square off, Topliss would love for his side to make amends for their 137-run loss against the Blues in round one — when they were rolled for a paltry 81. “When we came across Marist in the first round, we might have gone in a little complacent and thought it was going to happen for us,” Topliss said. “And we got a bit of a rude shock in that first round game. “The week after out at Leschenault, we were not terrible, but also not at our best. I reckon over the last two or three weeks, we have slowly started to pick up some momentum and get the ball rolling. “It will be a good test for us this week.” The Blues were far from disgraced during last Saturday’s 78-run away loss against reigning premiers Eaton, with Cory Fitt and Alan Utterson again prominent with the ball. It will be intriguing to see the final make up of Marist’s squad at the Bunbury Recreation Ground, given the potential of some players being unavailable due to work commitments or injury. Eaton players were forced to think on their feet last week when the Blues not only threw Fitt into the bowling attack earlier, but also opened their innings with traditional third-drop Shawn Gillies. Topliss and his teammates are prepared for whatever transpires, according to the skipper. “We will probably just adapt to it,” he said. “Obviously they have got such a good line up, they do have the luxury of putting guys like that up the order. “Especially with Shawn Gillies. He is one of the best batters in the comp, so if that happens, we will have to adjust our game plan a little bit — and potentially change up some of our bowling to help.”
