Community breakfasts, citizenship ceremonies and volunteers recognised: your guide to Australia Day events

There will be plenty on offer for South West residents this Australia Day, as communities across the region set to mark the occasion in their own way. Ahead of Friday’s public holiday, the South Western Times looks at what is in store. City of Bunbury The day kicks off early and finishes late in the city, which is set to host the biggest celebrations in the region. Following the success of last year’s changes, the Koombana Bay Foreshore will return as the centre of activity for this year’s event. Commemorations start at 6.30am with the Mayor’s Citizenship Awards and the annual breakfast hosted by the Apex Club of Bunbury Koombana, with events running throughout the day. The headline Skyfest commences at 4pm, culminating in the traditional Australia Day fireworks at 8.30pm. Shire of Dardanup There are three gold-coin donation breakfasts on offer for residents in the Dardanup region, headlined by a celebration on the Eaton Foreshore put on by the Eaton Lions club. The foreshore breakfast event starts at 7.30am, which will also include the Shire’s Citizenship Ceremony and Community Citizen of the Year Awards. Live music and entertainment for children will also be on offer. Dardanup’s community breakfast gets served from 8am at Carramar Park, with a choir and magician among the activities on offer. The Burekup Country Club’s breakfast begins at 7.30am and will include music and a bouncy castle. Shire of Capel Commemorations in the Capel region will be centered in Boyanup, commencing with the gold-coin Boyanup Lions Club breakfast from 7am at Fettlers Park. Participants will be able to view a vintage display of motor vehicles and enjoy some Australian music classics. The centre of action moves to the Hugh Kilpatrick Hall at 8am for the Shire of Capel’s Citizenship and Community Awards ceremony, which will see 24 residents become Australian citizens. 1999 Young Australian of the Year in Environment Nahrel Dallywater will be the guest speaker. Shire of Harvey Four events are being held across the Harvey region on Australia Day, headlined by those taking place in Australind and Harvey. Commemorations kick off at the Ridley Park Foreshore at 7.30am, with a Citizenship Ceremony and Community Citizen of the Year recipients being announced. It is a similar story at the Harvey Recreation and Cultural Centre, though its event will commence at 7am. Binningup residents can head to the Country Club from 8am, while an event with be held at the Brunswick Junction Showgrounds at 7am within the Tom Pearson Pavilion.
