Community cupboard spreads the love
The strain on those in need in Dalyellup was eased slightly on Monday with the launch of the Dalyellup Collective Community Cupboard.
Set up in front of the Dalyellup library, the cupboard has been established on a cashless basis, with people welcome to take what they need when they need it and welcome to contribute what they can afford to.
Dalyellup Collective member Christine Terrantroy came up with the idea after seeing similar initiatives pop up and fade away in other South West centres.
The Strong Angels Foundation supplied the disused TV cabinet which was then decorated by Mrs Terrantroy and her daughter.
“All of the stuff in the cupboard came from a post on Facebook ... the response was amazing,” she said.
“People were messaging me asking where they could drop off donations.”
According to Mrs Terrantroy, the Dalyellup library was chosen as the location for the cupboard because of its location effectively in the middle of the suburb.
“We had a few different places but this seemed the best place because this is where everyone from the community comes to get what they need from the shops,” she said.
The Dalyellup Collective Community Cupboard will be situated outside of the Dalyellup library indefinitely.
It will be stored inside at night for security.
