Community input shapes vision for city

Mayor Gary Brennan has praised the more than 1500 Bunbury community members who provided input into the city’s most important planning document.

Bunbury City Council’s draft Strategic Community Plan was released for the final round of consultation on Friday.

The document outlines the vision, goals and objectives of the community for the next 10 years.

Mr Brennan said the document was the result of extensive community consultations held throughout 2017.

“These consultations were made in a variety of ways which enabled us to identify what is important to our community, both now and into the future,” Mr Brennan said.

“This plan belongs to the community – thank you to those who participated in the various surveys, workshops, community conversations and focus group sessions.

“By sharing your visions and aspirations, you have helped shape the vision, themes, goals and objectives for the City of Bunbury for the next decade.”

Mr Brennan said based on the number of people who provided input, he was confident that reflected 98 per cent of the entire community’s views.

The document includes key issues outlined by the community, such as alcohol and drugs, housing affordability and homelessness.

“The draft is a robust document based on those 1500 submissions as well as knowing what we know,” Mr Brennan said.

“Our accurate predictive analyses indicates that using demographic trends and change in technology ... it demonstrates where we’re heading.”

“Council looks forward to partnering with all members of our community, the State Government and other key stakeholders to help the city achieve our shared vision.”
