Community throws weight behind Gazznats petition

The 2009 announcement that Collie would host Gazzanats WA came with plenty of excitement as organisers claimed it would bring up to 9000 people into the town. By February the following year everything was in place for the inaugural event and it went from strength to strength in the ensuing years. Recently organisers were informed they would have only limited use of Collie Motorplex in 2020, leading to a decision to cancel the event unless the Motoring South West board changed its mind.

An online petition has been started by a concerned Collie community member wanting the Gazzanats car event to remain in Collie.

Petition creator Scott Quinn cited the potential loss to Collie’s economy as the primary reason he was collecting signatures which will be presented to Collie-Preston MLA Mick Murray and Motoring South West tomorrow.

The petition had collected more than 1500 signatures by the middle of yesterday and had set a target of 2500.

The petition can be signed online by searching Gazzanats on change.org.
