Council elect CEO Mal Osborne as temporary CEO of Bunbury Harvey Regional Council

City of Bunbury Council has unanimously supported CEO Mal Osborne to also act as CEO of the Bunbury Harvey Regional Council, until the newly appointed CEO takes up the position. The decision, to be ratified by the Shire of Harvey, will enable Mr Osborne to cover the interim period from when the current BHRC CEO contract expires on July 13, until the newly appointed CEO commences with the regional council on August 7. City of Bunbury Council made multiple attempts to employ an acting CEO for the intervening period without success, and as a consequence in an emergency meeting on July 11, voted for Mr Osborne to fill both roles. Bunbury Mayor Jaysen Miguel said the situation was the temporary solution to a sub optimal situation . “The difficulty of trying to find somebody to take over a role for a month was difficult,” he said. “This is almost a formality just to ensure that the continuity continues for the next month until the new person comes into the role.” Mayor Miguel said the financial implications of taking over two CEO positions has been sorted with the council. “Our CEO will obviously continue with the COB (City of Bunbury) remuneration,” he said. “What the agreement is that any time committed out there (BHRC) will come off the COB commitment to any ongoing costs out there,” he said. “So effectively the COB is getting a benefit of this, for the CEO committing his time out there in a lieu of future requested payments from BHRC.”
