Council gives green light to running events

Bunbury City Council has thrown its support behind a proposal for a Stawell Gift-style running event to be held in the city.

At its meeting on Tuesday night the council endorsed a $60,000 contribution to the Bunbury Geographe Gift 2018, with organisers needing to find a further $140,000.

The event is planned for the weekend of April 28 to coincide with the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games and would form part of the national athletics calendar.

It would include a combination of a free family day, a road race through the CBD and professional races.

Mayor Gary Brennan said the council was pleased to provide initial support.
