CWA turns back clock for a good cause

Poodle skirts, victory rolls and greaser style will make a fashion comeback on Saturday, as guests frock up for the Capel Shout Retro Blast Dinner Dance.

Hosted by the Capel Country Women’s Association at the Capel Country Club, the event aims to raise money for Alzheimer’s Research Australia.

Guests will get a taste of the 50s with a retro style smorgasbord, mocktails and cocktails and learn some new rock and roll moves with a demonstration and lessons by Simply Swing.

Singing group The Wednesday Girls will help to get people onto the dance floor as guests can use their new-found dancing prowess in the dance off for the title of belle and beau of the ball.

Association president Toni Steinbrenner said it was an opportunity for community members to reminisce about days gone by or for younger generations to experience the flair of the 50s era.

“We are encouraging everyone to dress in the theme and everything will be done in the theme – so the decorations, the food, the music and the games as well will all be from that era,” she said.

“Last year was very successful, we had lots of fabulous remarks and someone said ‘run it again and don’t change a thing’.

“It is a good chance for everyone to get together – come and let your hair down.”
