Dalyellup stun Colts
Dalyellup Beach all-rounder Rodney Shemeld has continued his charge towards challenging for cricketer-of-the-year after spearheading his side to a 52-run victory over Colts at the Bunbury Recreation Ground on Saturday.
Shemeld smacked 79 runs from 112 balls as Dalyellup made 149 in 45 overs, before he then took four wickets to help dismiss Colts for just 97.
Colts sent Dalyellup Beach into bat after winning the toss and big seamer Josh Topliss (5-23 off six overs) soon had Corey Fagan (3) knick a ball to Jayden Goodwin at second slip, before Scott Harber (14) smoked a ball to Joe Barningham, who took a sharp catch at short mid-wicket.
Tim Cooper’s return to First Grade cricket was short-lived when he was bowled by Connor Ipsen (1-28 off six overs) for four before Jake Boyle (1-20 off seven overs) dismissed Dillen Watson (17).
At 4-44, Dalyellup Beach were in trouble and needed a partnership.
Shemeld and Mitchell Boyle (11) did their best to settle the innings with a 52-run stand, but Joe Barningham (1-11 off eight overs) trapped Boyle lbw to break the stand. Paul Jones (7) worked hard to get himself into some form after three-consecutive ducks, but Colts captain Cruize Ciallella ran him out to put Colts in control.
Dalyellup Beach lost their final four wickets for no runs, with Shemeld run out by Murray Goodwin and Zane Verhaaf (0), Daniel Lomax (0) and Ryan Smoker (0) all victims of a rampaging Topliss.
Colts would have been confident of chasing the modest total but were forced to battle hard after Jaysen Miguel (1) knicked to Jones off the bowling of Shemeld (4-13 off eight overs).
Verhaaf (1-17 off five overs) got the big wicket of Jayden Goodwin (11) before the reliable Liam Renton (3-13) bowled Blaze Rosinski (21). Renton made it two wickets in two balls when he trapped Mitch Fraser (0) lbw to leave Colts 4-34.
Things got even better for Dalyellup when Murray Goodwin was out for just eight runs thanks to Shemeld.
Jordan Stynes (15) and Cruize Ciallella (13) worked hard to build a partnership, but Stynes was stumped by Jones off the bowling of Fagan (1-15 off 4.3 overs).
Much like Dalyellup Beach's lower order, Colts’ final four wickets fell quickly, with Barningham (17) run out by Fagan, before Shemeld got the wickets of Ciallella and Topliss (0). Renton put the icing on the cake, trapping Boyle (0) lbw to dismiss Colts well short of the total in the 34th over.
