Durnin has golden night in BBA
Tornadoes Red almost pulled off an upset win over first-placed Bulls Gold on Friday night in Bunbury Basketball Association’s A-Grade competition, leading by 14 points at half-time in a 87-81 loss.
Red had many chances to take the lead in the final minutes of the game but their shots would not drop.
Gold were led by South West Slammers players Travis Durnin (30 points including five three-pointers), Teny Puot (28 points) and Chris Douglas (12 points).
Red’s Jay Walton scored a personal season-high 28 points, while Jordan Barlow (21 points) and Jordan Sears (15 points) were also solid. Tornadoes Black rebounded after their recent form slump with an 85-62 win over club-mates Grey, with Carey Watkins scoring 19 points.
Watkins had support from Jason Smith (16 points) and Callum Heap who had a season-high 15 points.
Grey were led by their usual high scorers in Brandon Bennell (19 points) and Tyrone Winder (13 points), with Waylon Hill chipping in 12 of his own.
Bulls Maroon grabbed a solid 98-67 win over Aces Navy, with James Goodlad scoring 30 points and Paddy Phillips hitting 29 points for the victors, while Busselton defeated Aces White 87-62.
In the women’s games, the win-less Busselton put up a good fight against first placed Bulls in their 72-59 loss.
Georgia Denehey hit six three-pointers to score a game-high 26 points for the winners, while Eleanor Hartill (16 points) and Laura Jeffery (nine points) played well.
Busselton’s Clair Colgate (21 points) and Mia Gratham (12 points) nailed nine three-pointers between them, with Misty Wallace adding 12 points.
Aces Navy defeated Aces White in the derby 70-46 with Raya Thompson scoring 29 points.
