Event to provide community with valuable information

COMMUNITY members will have the opportunity to get help with identification, fines, driver’s licence and employment issues at a free community information day tomorrow at the PCYC Bunbury.

From 10.30am, representatives from agencies such as the Department of Transport, Skill Hire, Aboriginal Legal Housing, Department of Human Services and the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages will be on-site providing advice and solutions for birth registrations, fine payments, income support, licence applications and legal aid.

Hoping to increase employment opportunities especially for the Aboriginal community, PCYC centre manager Joanne Hill said the event made it convenient for people to sort out all their concerns and issues in one spot with a variety of agencies on-hand happy to answer questions.

“We know from statistics that licensing is one of the major problems for Aboriginal people so we are removing barriers by hosting this forum to help them gain employment,” she said.

“People can benefit largely from this day by liaising with the licensing agencies to secure their driver’s licence then talking to employment representatives to seek stability.”

Encouraging community members from all different backgrounds to attend, Mrs Hill said the success of the inaugural event would determine if it became a regular addition for the community of Greater Bunbury.
