Federal Minister Ken Wyatt encourages community to follow footsteps of Bunbury’s young Aboriginal leaders

Federal Minister for Indigenous Australians Ken Wyatt has praised the hard work of Bunbury’s young Aboriginal role models. The South Western Times used the start of Reconciliation Week to shine a spotlight on nine inspirational young Indigenous people making a difference in the wider community last week. From healthcare workers and footy club coaches to artists and the next generation of leaders in schools, these young people are sharing culture and making waves with their talent, and it’s not going unnoticed. The nine role models were Tahlia Bennell, Jasmine Thompson, Max Jetta, Skye Carr, Taylor Tuhiwai, Joe Bradshaw, Kehaan Lange-McGuire, Melissa Miles and Isiah Winder. Mr Wyatt, pictured, said the young trailblazers were leading by example, and he encouraged others to do the same. “The stories of the young leaders in Bunbury should inspire us all to follow their lead, foster leadership within ourselves and our own communities,” he said. “You don’t have to come from a big city to be noticed, to forge a path as a leader in your own right. “Leadership is one of the most important assets we have in our young Indigenous community. “I want to recognise the achievements of Tahlia, Jasmine, Max, Skye, Taylor, Taylor, Joe, Kehaan, Melissa, and Isiah. “They have a bright and important future ahead of them, I hope they continue their successes and inspire others along the way.” Bunbury MLA Don Punch said it was great to see the Times bring attention to inspirational members of Bunbury’s vibrant community. “I’m impressed with young people in Bunbury across the board,” he said. “It’s important to recognise the young Indigenous people leading the way and their great achievements.”
