Field warms up for Cup

South Western Times

A bumper field has nominated for this Sunday’s $100,000 Bull and Bush Tavern Cup (2019m) at the Bunbury Turf Club.

The annual race is used as a prelude for many contenders for this month’s prestigious XXXX Gold Bunbury Cup.

Perth Cup starters Not Again Ken, Juicing Carrots and Dark Alert have all been named to compete, while 2017 winning trainer Justin Warwick has put forward six-year-old stallion Hakuna Matata.

Warwick’s daughter Lucy has surprisingly taken the ride on Brian Kersley’s Woodsville, after the duo ran second across 1600m in Pinjarra last month.

Woodsville has a proven record over the distance, having placed second across 2150m, falling by more than a length behind Cappo D’oro.

Champion WA jockey William Pike will ride Matt and Peter Giadresco’s Prentice, who has already set his sights on Bunbury’s biggest race.

Prentice is in sensational form, winning across 1930m in Albany last week.
