Five players from South West Football League set to head to Adelaide as part of Country Football WA side

Some of the biggest names in South West football are set to play at Adelaide Oval this weekend as a curtain-raiser to the Adelaide and Hawthorn AFL game. Five players from the South West Football League have been chosen as part of the 23-player squad by Country Football WA to take on South Australia Country on Sunday. Leading the charge for the New Holland Country Football Men’s State team is head coach Michael Griffiths, along with captain Tom Gorter from the South West Football League. Donnybrook and Busselton have two players who will take part in the match, while one player is from South Bunbury. The Dons’ Ben Howlett and Cooper Clarke-Dehring are set to play on the big stage, joining the Magpies’ Mitch Tenardi and Liam Creighton alongside the Tigers’ Gorter. The removal of star players from Donnybrook and Busselton could impact the chances of both sides in this weekend’s matches, with each needing wins to keep their finals chances alive. As Nutrien Ag Solutions Country Football Championships grand finalists SWFL and Avon Valley were rewarded with five players from each league being selected. The WA Country team is looking to secure back-to-back victories after a convincing 45-point win over the Croweaters last year at Optus Stadium. But South Australia leads the head-to-head record 7-3.
