Florist’s passion blooms

Zach RelphSouth Western Times

Chronic back injuries forced Eileen Wenn to retire from sport in the 1980s, but it helped the florist develop a passion which is still flourishing today.

“There is beauty in flowers to be shared,” Mrs Wenn said.

“I have friends all over the world, of all nationalities and religions, because of it.

“When we get together at different events or competitions, it is friendship through flowers.”

The Vittoria Heights resident has been bestowed with an Order of Australia medal for service to the floral arts through a variety of roles.

Mrs Wenn is a former Australian Floral Art Association president, served as an Australian delegate to the World Association of Floral Artists and has been a West Australian Floral Art Society member since 1990.

Floristry has allowed Mrs Wenn to travel all over the world – including visits to the United Kingdom, United States of America and Ireland – for competitions and exhibitions.

Mrs Wenn said she was “overwhelmed and surprised” to be awarded the honour and thanked her husband Doug for his continual support.
