Following the footsteps of Olympic hero Lauren Reynolds
Five riders from the Bunbury BMX Club will follow in the footsteps of Olympian Lauren Reynolds when they represent WA at the BMX Australia 2017 National Championships in Queensland in April.
Cameron Wyatt (11 boys), Mikaela Neill (13 girls) and Austin Forrester (13 boys) will ride for the 2017 State Dynamite Team, while Kye Munday has been selected for the 2017 State Athlete Development Squad and Rachelle Smith has been chosen in the 2017 State High Performance Squad.
Cameron, 10, has been training with Reynolds over the school holidays ahead of April’s championships and is excited to represent WA for the first time.
“I want to get at least a top four (finish),” he said.
“I just like jumping, racing and going fast.” Cameron said he wanted to follow in the footsteps of Reynolds and one day become an Olympian.
Mikaela, 12, has only been riding for three years, but aims for a podium finish at this year’s championships.
Reynolds has been back in Australia for the past few weeks, training at the club as well as holding clinics with local riders.
