Four rescued from drifting yacht

Kate FieldingSouth Western Times

Four people aboard a drifting yacht had a lucky escape on last night when rescue crews were called to tow the vessel to safety.

Bunbury Sea Rescue volunteers responded to the call for help about 9.30pm after the vessel experienced engine trouble.

The rescue crew found the yacht and its four passengers drifting west of The Cut at the entrance to the Leschenault Estuary.

The yacht was towed to a jetty in Casuarina Harbour where it was expected to be repaired yesterday.

It is understood the owner of the yacht bought the vessel earlier that day and sailed from Fremantle to Dunsborough before running into trouble on the return trip.
