Dalyellup Surf Life Saving Club members could not wipe the smiles from their faces on Friday when they were presented with more than $41,000 to finish the new clubrooms by summer.

Having spent the past 15 years operating out of sea containers, the news could not have come soon enough for some club members after Bunbury MLA Don Punch announced the $41,467 Lotterywest grant on Thursday.

“It’s fantastic news that we get this to help finish off the club,” president Yvonne Broome said.

“The members are very excited and have all been working extremely hard to get it all together.

“We’re getting some trailers made for our boards and some other things included in that.”

This latest injection of funding will be used by the club not only to buy the relevant new equipment, but all of the furniture for the clubrooms as well.

Mr Punch made the presentation inside the almost finished clubrooms and said club was “a very deserving community organisation”.

“I’m really thankful to Lotterywest for getting behind the club and supporting it,” he said.

“This is one of those projects that really touches my heart because the community have got right behind it and stuck with it and their vision.”
