Bunbury organisation WA iSports Inc, won a major award at the Western Australian Regional Achievement and Community Awards in Perth on Friday night.

The volunteer group won the Woolworths Community Group of the Year Award. WA iSports Inc chairwoman Alison Burnett said she was thrilled to win the award.

“It helps to validate the work we have done – one of the reasons we applied was to provide greater awareness about providing inclusiveness and together the community can create possibilities for everyone,” Mrs Burnett said.

“We are all volunteers and we have to work hard to raise funds, so this has now given the broader population the knowledge and understanding of who we are and what we are about.

WA iSports Inc athlete representative Joseph Bandera became the star of the night after his reaction when the organisation was announced the winner.

“Joseph was overwhelmed with joy and excitement, it was just wonderful,” Mrs Burnett said.

The other winners from the South West were Shannon Richards who won Ricoh Australia Customer Service Award, South West Community Care which won Prime Super Employer Excellence in Aged Care Award and Les Wallam who won the RAC Volunteering Award.
