A strategy to guide the management and development of sporting grounds and facilities across the city will be completed this financial year, according to Bunbury City Council.

The draft City of Bunbury Sport and Recreation Strategy was developed following extensive consultation with relevant stakeholder groups and will be presented to the council next month.

It will focus on the existing and future needs in relation to facility provision, sports grounds usage and future development requirements for the next 10 to 20 years.

The South West Sports Centre is expected to be a focus point.

Mayor Gary Brennan thanked the sporting clubs and user groups for their participation in helping form the draft strategy.

“This strategy will go a long way in helping to guide the future direction, management and development of the city’s sporting grounds and facilities,” Mr Brennan said.

Once the draft strategy has been presented to the council in May it will be available for public comment.
