Hat-trick drives Collie to victory

South Western Times

The South West Strikers and the women’s division of the South West Hockey League took a break from hostilities at the weekend.

In the women’s absence, Collie’s Gareth Shepherdson slotted a hat-trick in a big 4-0 victory over Towns-South in Bunbury with Cassady and Benson Sanford catching the eye in tandem with man-of-the-match Shepherdson.

Wests had the bye, but were never in danger of losing their spot at the top of the table despite victories for finalists Marist and Boyanup. Both sit on 23 points, with Wests ahead on 28.

Skipper Andrew Blee, Alby Lawrence and Alex McGeoch were all on target for the Blues in their 3-1 win over Associates.

South West Strikers best and fairest David O’Brien scored Associates’ only goal.

Blee, Lawrence and Brett Cartledge caught the eye for the Blues against Sean Cowan, Strikers star Jarrod Booth and O’Brien.

Exies put up a determined fight against the Boyanup All Blacks last Sunday with Tom Harvie, Geoff Gibbs and Mike Sewell prominent in a 2-0 win.

The goal scorers were Sewell and Dan Trigwell.

No action tomorrow night and Sunday sees just Saturday occupying the Bunbury Stadium with Marist taking on Collie at 3.15pm, followed by Exies against Wests at 4.45pm and Boyanup against TownsSouth at 6.15pm.
