Hawaiian Ride for Youth sees record numbers of new cyclists participate in the charity event’s 22nd year

WA cyclists will set the stage for another Hawaiian Ride for Youth with a record number of 49 first-time riders gearing up to support youth mental health in 2024. The riders will span multiple generations with the oldest aged 83 to pedal alongside 26 young riders under 30 years old for 700km from Albany to Perth. The event raises money for Youth Focus and the cyclists stop at 15 schools to meet students and share stories. Those schools will include Australind Senior High School, Georgiana Molloy Anglican School and Harvey Senior High School. Youth Focus chief executive Derry Simpson said the ride had become “part of the fabric” of WA. “The riders travel through a number of communities from Albany to Perth and the support they receive from those communities is incredible,” he said. “At its heart, the Hawaiian Ride for Youth is about bringing community together, raising awareness about youth mental health support, and ultimately creating a Western Australia where our young people can thrive. “The funds raised by every rider who takes part in this incredible 700km journey helps Youth Focus ensure young people have access to the support services they need, when they need them and within their own communities. “The Hawaiian Ride for Youth makes an impact where it’s most needed — in regional areas of Western Australia.” The ride concludes at the welcome home ceremony at UWA’s Riley Oval on March 23.
