The Hawkers defeated the Billy Goats by 18 points when the two teams went head-to-head on Wednesday night. The two teams faced off at the Manjimup Sports Pavilion in the Manjimup Amateur Basketball Association senior competition on Wednesday night, with Billy Goats coming off a tie in the previous round. The Hawkers started the match strongly, taking an early lead thanks to baskets scored by Jayson Lee, Aaron Watson and Matthew Bornatici, although Billy Goats’ Ashtyn Carpanoni and Jordan Pinelli tried to soften the blow by scoring for their side. By the end of the first half, the Hawkers seemed unstoppable, with the Billy Goats barely able to put a dent in their lead. The half ended with Hawkers in the lead, 36-14. The second half set a challenge for the Billy Goats to try to catch up to the Hawkers. The Billy Goats started the second half strongly thanks to Carpanoni and Rastus Herdigan, who were able to narrow the margin by scoring several points early on. However, the Hawkers were still able to manouvre through Billy Goats’ defences to score several points, with Bornatici, Jesse Potts and Aaron Watson scoring to maintain their strong lead. Despite the Billy Goats’ attempts to take the lead, including some last-minute points scored by Herdigan, the Hawkers were too strong and claimed the win, 53-35. Hawkers’ Bornatici was the highest-scoring player of the match with 15 points, while teammates Watson and Drew Carruthers scored 14 and 12 points respectively. In the other men’s matches, Barracudas beat Wolfpack 67-39, Hawks A defeated Raiders 51-33, Redbacks beat Tropics 31-24, Dribblers defeated Giants 47-37, and Yabbies won against Warriors 37-29. In the women’s A-grade competition, the Pink Ladies beat Aces 49-31, Sapphires defeated Sharks 28-24, and Slam Drunks toppled Comets 42-26. In the women’s B-grade competition, Bush Chooks beat Astrix 24-19, Senators defeated Aus Stars 34-29, and Magpies Orange beat Magpies Blue 28-21.
