A Collie couple have been left devastated after thieves stole $30,000 worth of valuables and keepsakes from their home.

Barry and Debra Jack were in Perth when they received a phone call from a neighbour telling them their house had been broken into.

When they returned on Tuesday they discovered a number of valuables had been stolen, including jewellery that had been in the family for generations.

Mrs Jack said the burglary had made her reconsider leaving town in the future.

“The worst part is being too scared to leave home,” she said.

“If we go to Perth again, are we going to have the same thing happen?

“These people have seen the inside of our home and are they going to come back for the rest? That is the really scary thing.”

Collie Police Sen. Sgt Heath Soutar said officers were seeking public help.

“It is hoped we can get some leads as to where the property might be located,” he said.

“It is such a shame to see long treasured family items stolen.

“Our goal is to recover these items and see offenders apprehended and charged.”

Mrs Jack said she was careful to always make sure the house was locked and secure before leaving town.

“We did everything you are supposed to do,” she said.

“We locked all the doors and windows to make sure the house is as secure as possible.

“Somehow these thieves have managed to get inside the house and have gone through everything.”

Mrs Jack said the theft had left her feeling violated.

“Knowing that someone has been through your house and seen what you have is awful,” she said.

“We can replace some of the stuff, but we can’t replace the heirlooms and memories attached to what was stolen.”

Collie Police Sen. Sgt Heath Soutar said officers were hoping to get help from the public.
