VideoRepresentatives from ANZ, the City of Bunbury and OUT South West officially unveiled the new inclusive Oxford Street sign this morning.

Oxford Street’s colourful new street sign was unveiled last week as the countdown began to this year’s Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade this weekend.

The vibrant display of inclusiveness entitled “I’m Spinning Around” was one of eight special street signs installed around the country to mark the ANZ Bank’s 13-year sponsorship of the LGBTQI festival.

“We wanted to let people know that it doesn’t matter how far you are from Oxford Street in Sydney, we’re supporting you as we strive for an equal future for everyone,” ANZ regional executive Sarah Lang said.

The sign was designed with South West elements in mind and includes model sulphur-crested cockatoos and hats hanging from a Hills Hoist, erected in partnership with Bunbury City Council and OUT South West.

Bunbury deputy mayor Jaysen Miguel said the sign highlighted Bunbury’s rich diversity.

“Bunbury is a very inclusive city at the best of times, so we’re happy to do anything that makes people feel comfortable here,” he said.

“It’s all about inclusiveness ... no matter your background, you’re a part of this community.”

The sign will remain in place indefinitely.

The 2019 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras takes place on Saturday night.
