A strong trial last week has South West trainer Ross Price confident Arctic Stream will have a good showing on debut today at the Bunbury Turf Club.
The three-year-old won his trial over 950m last week and will take to the track for the $15,000 Eaton Boomers Football Club Maiden (1208m) when racing returns to the South West.
Price said the gelding was a “middle distance horse” and was inexperienced.
“You won’t see the best of him until his next campaign,” he said.
“He will get to a mile, maybe a mile and a half.
“He is just starting to get it together.”
Price said Arctic Stream was one of his “hopefuls” in what was a small team for this season.
“You just never know until you start racing him,” he said.
“He will probably have one more start (after this) and then have a break as there is not a lot for him in this campaign.”
Fellow South West gelding Mighty Chance is also looking to break his maiden status when he takes to the track in the $15,000 Parks Centre Shopping Centre Maiden (1008m).
The Giadresco stable four-year-old has run two seconds from seven starts and begins his second preparation after a five months spell and an ordinary trial last month.
Peter Giadresco said Mighty Chance had run a few seconds and had show that he could claim a maiden win.
“He is shaping up to be a bread and butter horse,” he said.
“He will be suited to racing around the provincials.
“But he is just not a horse that you can declare.”
Giadresco said Might Chance was “just learning” in his last preparation.
“He is now a bit more mature,” he said.
“I am sure he will pick one (a maiden) off.
“While he is fresh he still has a bit of ping in him.”
The Giadresco stable is firmly focused on the efforts of Profit Street who has nominated for December’s $1m Group 1 Crown Perth Winterbottom Stakes (1200m).
The six-year-old stallion has been on break for the past two months and is set to race in this Saturday’s $150,000 Prince of Wales Stakes (1000m) at Ascot, where he will look for a 10th win from 23 starts.
