An enthralling and captivating puppet show is coming to the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre in 2024.

Erth Visual & Physical Inc. will present its show ARC, on August 20, showcasing exquisite puppetry in a magical and nature-themed setting.

ARC offers a magical encounter with rare and vulnerable species such as snow leopards, hammerhead sharks, microbats, elephants and more.

The production was well received as part of the Sydney Opera House’s family programming when it made its world premiere in 2023.

BREC executive director Fiona de Garis knew, when she saw the puppets, that she wanted to bring ARC to the Bunbury-Geographe region.

“I was fortunate enough to be invited out to Erth’s fascinating workshop space in Redfern when I was in Sydney,” Ms de Garis said.

The show has appeal on many levels for both children and adults. As I sat there and watched, and was absorbed into this beautiful tale, I knew I wanted the families and children around BREC to have the chance to experience this magic too.”

The show asks the audience to consider the vulnerability of us as a race and the fragility of the eco-sphere.

The theme of the production is particularly relevant for South West audiences, as the region is known as a biodiversity hot spot and home to many endangered and threatened species.

The beautiful life-size puppets bring necessary attention to science, sustainability and current affairs while providing a visual feast with poetic narration, dynamic performances and original music, lighting and projection.

More than 400 students are already booked in to see the special performance which is part of BREC’s Creative Learning Program for primary schools in 2024.

The program aims to expose as many children as possible to a range of developmental benefits from engaging with live performance and the creative arts.

Erth has been creating physical and visual theatre for more than 30 years, successfully engaging children.

The project has been assisted by the Federal Government through Creative Australia and the NSW Government through Create NSW.
