Overnight mine workers have had 10 of their vehicles ransacked at a Bunbury carpark. South32 Worsley workers returned to their cars, which had been parked overnight at a carpark off South Western Highway in Picton, on Wednesday, June 23 after a night shift only to face a “rotten” scene of destruction. The vandals smashed windows and stole wheels, leaving the workers disappointed and causing a furore among Bunbury residents online. One worker, who uses the carpark but was not among the shift workers affected, said he often did not feel safe leaving his vehicle there. “We’re pretty much all parking our cars in a dark carpark out of town for long hours at a time and hoping for the best,” he said. “One of the guys I work with, he’s come back to the carpark and his car’s been sitting on blocks with all the wheels taken off. We have had some issues there before but it’s been pretty good for a while.” The worker said it was a shame to see this happen and that incidents like this left the workers feeling on edge. “It’s really rotten. It’s freezing up in Collie too, they’re working all night and then get back to the car park at about 7am to that, it’s really disappointing,” he said. He said he hoped drivers would help keep an eye out when passing by the carpark at night time in the future.
