The Souwest Jets have not even started their season and they already have good news, with Edith Cowan University signing on as a major sponsor.

With the 2017 WA Netball League season around the corner and squads expected to be named soon, the Jets received a significant financial boost with the new deal.

Netball South West administrator Lyn Byrne said partnerships such as this were important for regional sporting clubs.

“This gives our athletes a pathway to further eduction in the region and therefore helps us to retain our players,” she said.

ECU South West campus dean Lyn Farrell said she was happy to be part of a great club.

“For us the target audience for netball is one we want to get our profile out too,” she said.

“A lot of the courses we offer here are the sorts of courses young women are interested in.

“In a broader sense, ECU sponsors the West Coast Eagles, so this gives us a chance to get involved with a female sport and it is South West, where we want to get our message out about this campus.

“There are lots of reasons for us to be involved with Souwest Jets.”
