John Worsfold to discuss career highlights in special meet & greet at Bunbury’s Rose Hotel this weekend

Following the positive reception of two West Coast Eagles legends venturing to Bunbury in 2022, another Eagles legend is set to roll into town this weekend. West Coast Eagles premiership captain and coach John Worsfold is set to discuss his career highlights during a special meet and greet at The Rose Hotel on Saturday, hosted by Will Schofield. Bunbury-based Eagles and footy fans will have the chance to get up close and personal with Worsfold as he talks about his career highlights along with his thoughts on the upcoming AFL season. The West Australian Football Hall of Famer is widely regarded as a legend among the West Coast faithful, having captained the club to AFL premierships in 1992 and 1994, and eventually coaching the club to a premiership in 2006. After getting started playing for South Fremantle in the WAFL, Worsfold was named as a member of the West Coast Eagles’ inaugural 32-man squad in October 1986, eventually making his debut in round four of the 1987 season. Worsfold went on to play 209 games in the blue and gold, eventually serving as club captain from 1991 to 1998, when he retired. Along with the 1992 and 1994 premierships as captain, Worsfold raked in the accolades, from being named West Coast Club Champion in 1988 to being awarded Best Clubman in 1993 and 1998. Worsfold soon made the transition to coaching, getting started as an assistant coach for Carlton before returning to the Eagles’ nest to take over as head coach. He went on to spend 12 seasons at the helm, coaching the Eagles for 281 games, including the 2006 premiership over Sydney Swans. That same year, Worsfold was named the All-Australian coach and the AFL Coaches Association’s Coach of the Year. Worsfold would be named the AFLCA Coach of the Year again in 2011 before he eventually stepped down as senior coach at the end of the 2013 season. Following his long association with West Coast, Worsfold spent time as an assistant coach for the Adelaide Crows in 2015 before he was appointed senior coach for Essendon the following year, where he spent five seasons before handing the reins over to Ben Rutten.
