Join sale trail

South West garages will be transformed into temporary shop fronts as residents get on board the Garage Sale Trail this weekend.

“Garage Sale Queen” Ellen Reid of 2 Nowland Court, Usher will open her home to shoppers, offering a variety of bargain bric-a-brac, as well as handmade fairy gardens and memory jars.

“They are something I started doing with the grandkids and the memory jars I make for family members for birthdays,” she said.

Mrs Reid said she had a passion for recycling goods and said the money collected add up significantly.

“My friend who will be doing the sale with me actually saved her deposit for her house through doing garage sales, markets and baby sitting,” she said.

Joshua Creek Road in Crooked Brook will offer handmade chopping boards and artworks, while a clearance sale in Donnybrook will offer a range of Star Wars collectables.

More than 400,000 waste-conscious sellers and shoppers will take part nationwide to promote the message “choose to reuse”.

Environment Minister Stephen Dawson said the trail encouraged Western Australians to think about how they can take responsibility for the waste they create and reduce the volume of reusable goods ending up in landfill.

“Hosting a sale is a great opportunity to declutter, fundraise and give items a second life, rather than throwing them out,” he said.

“Waste is everyone’s responsibility and I encourage all Western Australians to join the Garage Sale Trail and help make our State a low waste society.”
