Children are encouraged to get their little builder hats on during the school holidays and participate in a Lego Challenge at the Dalyellup Community Centre.

The Child and Parent Centre Carey Park, in partnership with Dalyellup Library and the Capel Shire Council, held its first Lego Challenge yesterday with kids aged five to eight-years-old exercising their imagination and challenging their design and thinking skills.

Child and parent centre coordinator Deb Woods said Lego was beneficial to children’s development as an alternative to electronic devices.

“Lego gets kids using their own imagination and creativity which is something that is lost these days on iPads and computers,” she said.

“It uses their fine motor skills and the social interaction is absolutely fantastic so it’s a fun activity for all.”

The next Lego Challenge will be held on January 24 from 9.30am. Children must be accompanied by parents. Bookings are essential and can be made by contacting the centre on 9721 6991.
