Those keen to keep Bunbury beaches safe this summer are being called upon to register as a surf lifesaver.

City of Bunbury Surf Life Saving Club’s registration day was held on Sunday with the club is encouraging new members to get involved.

President Denise Duncan said joining the club not only benefited the community but also offered numerous opportunities for individuals.

“Being a club member provides a variety of opportunities for everyone, including gaining qualifications that may one day save a life and equally allow you to patrol once every month,” Mrs Duncan said.

“Swim, ski, board and beach sprint and flag training is available for our surf sports competition athletes from nippers to masters as well as members who want to develop and improve their health and fitness.”

Mrs Duncan said the Back Beach-based group was truly a “club for everyone”.

“Our new season is fast approaching and we are all very excited about hitting the beach and enjoying our beautiful Back Beach once again this year,” she said.

“Keeping ourselves and others safe at the beach, making new friends and simply having fun is the key to our club’s success and it is both the old and new members who make this club a great place to be,” she said.

The club’s patrol season starts the first weekend of October and will cover the Back Beach and Koombana Bay along with roving patrols of Hungry Hollow and BP beaches.

Dalyellup Surf Life Saving Club’s registration day will be held on October 14 at Dalyellup Shopping Centre.
