Lions roar to tight victory

Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault continued their solid form with a hard-fought 20-point win over the Eaton Boomers at Brunswick Oval on Sunday.

The Lions held off a fast finishing Boomers’ outfit, who missed chances on goal in the final term, to win 13.10 (88) to 9.14 (68).

The match began at a fast pace and while Lion Jesse Crichton kicked the first goal of the match, the Boomers were moving the ball quickly which was causing the home team some problems.

Aaron Jetta and Josh Branchi booted goals for the Boomers to take the lead and it took a late goal from Ty Anderson to see the Lions just one point up at quarter time.

The match continued to be an arm wrestle, however, midway through the term, the Lions broke the game open with four goals in five minutes, thanks to a patch of midfield dominance.

Zavier Williams kicked two goals in this period and proved a real threat.

Jaymie Osiejak got one back for the Boomers, however they trailed by 15 points at the main break.

Osiejak soccered a goal from the first play in the third term and it was through his efforts that the Boomers stayed in the match, because he kicked three for the quarter.

The Lions kicked four goals of their own to finish the quarter, with their slick ball movement in to the forward line being a highlight.

It took until midway through the final quarter for the first goal to be kicked, courtesy of Boomer Heath Ryder.

Zavier Williams kicked his third in the last two minutes to ice the match for the Lions.
