Man dies after car collides with Australind train
A man has died after his car collided with a train in Brunswick on Tuesday morning.
According to police, the man’s green Ford Festiva collided with the Australind train in a horrific crash around 6.15am.
Police, firefighters and the RAC Rescue Helicopter were called to the crash at the Heppingstone Road railway crossing.
The man – who is yet to be identified – died at the scene. He was the only person in the vehicle at the time.
The railway crossing has no barriers and is close to South Western Highway.
The train driver and passengers were not injured in the crash, but all those aboard have been offered counselling through the Public Transport Authority.
The passengers were transferred onto coach buses to continue their journey to Perth.
It is understood the train was not seriously damaged and is expected to resume service tomorrow.
