A skipper who hit a man snorkelling at Forrest Beach near Capel on Sunday is yet to come forward to authorities.

A Department of Transport spokeswoman confirmed a man was struck by a dinghy about 50m out on Sunday morning.

The incident occurred about 10.30am.

It is understood the man snorkelling suffered a significant gash to his leg.

Department of Transport waterways safety management director Chris Mather said a marine incident investigation was under way.

“The exact circumstances surrounding this incident are currently being investigated to determine if there had been any breaches of State marine laws,” Mr Mather said.

He said the investigation would determine if any further action including fines or legal action was appropriate.

The department is appealing for the skipper and anyone who witnessed the incident to call 9435 7827.
