Marist feel the sting after Hay Park victory
Reigning premiers Hay Park Redbacks took a step up the Bunbury and Districts Cricket Association ladder with a comprehensive victory over Marist on Saturday.
Redbacks youngster Brendan Jones continued his brilliant form and combined with Dave Taylor for a sound century start, which was backed by solid starts all the way down the list from Kris Miller, Michael Tassone Ryan Laybourne and a Chris McMillan cameo to set the Blues 239 for victory.
After a string of four wins in five matches after losing four of their first five, Marist faltered against the Redbacks’ tight bowling attack to finish on 155.
Taylor (2-30 from six overs), Reon Tither and James Ewing dismissed the Blues first four batsmen and with English import Tylor McGladdery run out, the Blues were wobbling on 4/36. Blues skipper Adam Spinelli, his deputy Matt Anderson, Chris Laker and teenager Kade Wallrodt fought back for some respectability.
However with the speed merchants brought back into the attack, Shaun Towers, skipper Jono Whitney and the ever lethal Chris Waddingham took out the tail to step over the Blues up into third spot on the BDCA points table.
