Meth mother Rosa Ann Valois pleads guilty weeks after begging Magistrate for bail

A Bunbury mother who hadpreviously begged a magistrate not to put her in custody has admitted to a series of drug dealing-related offences. Rosa Ann Valois, 25, appeared in Bunbury Magistrate’s Court on Thursday via videolink from Melaleuca Women’s Prison where she entered pleas of guilty to a string of drug offences. The offences included two counts of driving with a prescribed illicit drug in her oral fluid or blood, three counts of possessing glass smoking implements, two counts of cannabis possession, two counts of possessing methamphetamine with intent to sell or supply, offering to sell or supply methamphetamine to another person, and several counts of unlawful prescription drug possession including diazepam and gabapentin. Valois also pleaded not guilty to a charge of having $1240 cash that was suspected to be unlawfully obtained, telling the court the money was “Centrelink payments”. It was alleged the offences occurred throughout Bunbury between December 11 last year and April 15 this year. The matters were adjourned for sentencing on June 17, while further charges of prohibited drug possession and an allegation of having ready access to methamphetamine and a machete were adjourned pending further negotiations. It comes almost a month after Valois appeared after she was arrested while she was on bail for similar offending and entered the courtroom in tears. During the previous hearing, the court was told Valois was seen by police driving in the Carey Park area at 12.15pm on April 15 and a search was conducted, where 0.5g of methamphetamine was located and seized. It was alleged Valois declared she had possession of the illicit drug prior to the search and also told police she would sell methamphetamine on occasion while using it herself. When a bail application was made on her behalf, it was submitted Valois needed to continue taking care of her two young children and she was due to be a witness in her ex-partner’s District Court trial. However, Valois was refused bail with Magistrate Benjamin Tyers adopting the view she was unable to comply with her bail conditions. As Valois was led out of the courtroom, she broke down in tears and begged Mr Tyers not to remand her in custody. “Please your honour, this is so out of character for me,” she cried. Mr Tyers told her she had put herself in that position. Valois remains in custody on remand.
