Motorsport: Diamond Bay Motorsport love competing against the best in WA and the world

For Diamond Bay Motorsport team officials Cameron and Paul Stathy, motorsport isn’t a just a recreational pursuit, it’s a way of life. Whether it’s trackside at the Perth Motorplex, or hard at work inside the Australind team workshop, the Stathys leave no stone unturned in a bid to be competitive. “We aim to do 27 shows this year — 22 on the west coast and five across Victoria and South Australia,” Cameron said. “It’s a big season, which will include the Australian sprint car title in Warrnambool. “It’s also great to back a local driver like James Inglis. “Obviously both ourselves and Krikke Motorsport are backing local drivers and it’s great, because everyone can see both James and Dayne Kingshott improving together. “Hopefully they can both become top drivers in the country one day.” While most shows at the Perth Motorplex finish around 10-10.30pm on a Saturday night, for team officials and drivers, the night is only half-done. “We like to load up a night before the show, just so we can have a bit of rest in the morning,” Cameron said. “We will usually leave for the track (Perth Motorplex) between 11-11.30am. If we are racing in Bunbury, we can head off a little later. The team pretty much work tirelessly from the moment we get there until the end of the meeting. “But it doesn’t stop there. “We’ll usually then strip the car down and prepare to wash up. Sometimes, we also might do some maintenance after the show as well. “Some nights, we get back to the team shed around 4-5am on Sunday morning, if it’s been really busy. “If you have a good result on the night, it makes all of it worthwhile. Other nights, if you don’t have such a good result, you have to push to get the car back together.”
