If you thought South West Slammers men’s coach Shane Goff was going to put his feet up following Friday night’s final game of the season against the Mandurah Magic, think again.

While the Slammers will not be playing finals, Goff is keen to begin his off-season work and retain talent for next season, including electric import Buay Tuach.

Heading into Friday night’s clash at the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre, Goff believes his side is in a good headspace.

“On Tuesday night when we were at training, everybody had a smile on their face,” Goff said.

“The players know that it is coming towards the end of the season and they just want to work really hard and finish the season on another high.

“The Magic are in seventh, so they will be keen to get some form before the play-offs. But if we win, and things do not go their way, they could be knocked out (of the top eight), so they will be going to ensure they retain a play-off spot.

“Of course, we will be going out to ensure we try and make a mess of their play-off spotso the guys are really keen to give it a red-hot go.”

Goff was thrilled following his side’s 109-95 win over the East Perth Eagles last Saturday at home — in particular the way his side outscored the visitors 19-5 during overtime.

“Like a lot of our games, we had a three to four minute period where we struggled to score and teams capitalise,” Goff said.

“However, our boys came from 17 points down at one stage to get back in contention.”
