NBL1 West 2023: Player exodus from Slammers continues as more key players depart beleaguered club

The South West Slammers’ brutal off-season has continued, with the sizeable exodus of players continuing over the past week. In a hammer blow to the Slammers men’s team, who have won only eight games since 2019, prodigious talent Brody England has signed with the Joondalup Wolves, while emerging youngster Rivar Evans will join fellow ex-Slammers star Cody Hill at the Rockingham Flames. Slammers official Julieann Bissaker told the South Western Times England had been living in Perth for a while and in recent times had relocated north of the Swan River, which would make it harder to attend training. Bissaker said the club was confident Tori Dugan — who was set to play last season before accepting a deal in New Zealand — would suit up for the women’s program this season. Slammers fans are likely to flock to the South West Sports Centre on Saturday for the 6th Barr and Standley Bunbury masters carnival. It routinely attracts former NBL and State league basketball royalty, with players taking to the floor in a bid to rekindle their passion for basketball in an enjoyable environment, minus the taxing intensity.
