NBL1 West 2023: Shane Goff to remain South West Slammers men’s coach, Jason Chalk to replace Alex Ciabattoni

The South West Slammers have retained Shane Goff as men’s coach for the 2024 NBL1 West season. There has been a change with the women’s program however, with Alex Ciabattoni moving on from the role after one season and Jason Chalk appointed coach. Goff did the hard yards prior to the 2023 season, with the prospect of playing with no imports a real proposition. After hitting the street shortly after Christmas and consulting with South West businesses, he was able to raise enough money so Buay Tuach could return, along with securing the services of Canadian big man Ben Stevens. Although genuinely competitive at times throughout the year, the Slammers finished second bottom, winning four games. “Our turnover to assist ratio was getting better every week,” Goff said prior to his season debrief. “We were looking after the ball a lot better. Hopefully we’ll be able to keep everyone fit and healthy during the summer. They should get a little bit stronger, get more one on one training into them, which should build confidence. “If they do these things and put shots up, hopefully they’ll be back bigger, better and stronger next year.” The South Western Times understands the Slammers have also been proactive in their search to sign multiple imports for the beleaguered women’s team, which has lost 73 of its last 74 games.
