Newspapers rewarded for outstanding Slammers coverage

South Western Times

The South Western Times and Bunbury Herald have won the State Basketball League’s Media (Electronic/Print) of the Year Award for outstanding coverage of the South West Slammers’ 2017 season.

The major award was announced at Basketball WA’s Gala Awards night on Friday.

The newspapers were given the honour after another great year of covering the Slammers, as well as all other Basketball WA action in the South West.

Reporters gave fans live coverage of games through social media, while all the detailed match reports were on the Times’ website after the games and in the Bunbury Herald each week.

Fans were also given the best insight ahead of the Slammers’ contests in the Times, with regular previews, interviews and breaking news all being part of the award-winning coverage.

South Western Times and Bunbury Herald sports journalist Mitchell Woodcock said it was an honour to be recognised by the league.

“The State Basketball League gets a lot of great coverage across the State, so to be recognised as the best is fantastic,” he said.

“We take great pride in making sure we give the best coverage possible to all sports including basketball.”
