Nine organisations receive funding from Synergy’s Collie Small Grants Program

Nine Collie-based not-for-profits will share in $40,000 worth of funding as part of the latest round of Synergy’s Collie Small Grants Program. The scheme has been running for six years offering each organisation up to $5000 each round, with the Collie Racing Drivers Association able to improve the safety of the Collie Speedway’s track fence while the Mercy Leschenault Collie Netball Association will get new training equipment. The Collie Men’s Shed will look to expand with its funds and the Collie Art Group will upgrade its kiln. On the outskirts of town, the Collie Retired Mineworkers Association will refurbish the Stockton Arch, and the Cardiff Progress Alliance will buy a new fridge for the Cardiff Hall and a rainwater tank to begin a community garden. Paving new community connections, Anglicare WA has been funded to create a Collie division of its Thread Together service which aims to bring new clothes to those who need it, and Investing in Our Youth plans to launch a new youth mental health project called the Blue Leaf Initiative. Weaving workshops will be delivered by the Collie Family Centre with Aboriginal business Pipi Weaving. Synergy executive general manager of thermal generation Angie Young said the grants provided a “much-needed boost” to grass-roots organisations that delivered social, economic and environmental benefits to the community.
