Premier Mark McGowan says Koombana Bay’s newest artwork, the Wardandi Boodja, will attract visitors from “far and wide” to the city.

The impressive structure was unveiled in an official ceremony on Friday when hundreds flocked to the foreshore to take part.

Commissioned by Bunbury City Council and funded by the State Government, the 5.5m steel bust is the creation of local artists Alex and Nicole Mickle alongside design engineer Mike Kimble.

Mr McGowan said the “remarkable” artwork symbolised a long and important history with the region.

“I think it’s entirely appropriate that it be given the prominence that it has,” he said.

“I think this statue ... will be something – and I can see today, the number of people here – it will be something people come from far and wide to look at and to experience.”
