Olympian delights SW crowd at open water swimming

South Western Times

Swimmers from the South West got a rare opportunity to meet an Olympian when Kylie Palmer came to town for the Australia Swims Bunbury event on Sunday.

Palmer mingled with the many athletes who competed in the open water beach swim at Koombana Bay before the gold medallist participated herself with to chaperone the younger swimmers.

The club helped to run the event along with the Bunbury Surf Life Saving Club who patrolled the swim.

In the afternoon there was more fun to be had with beach games for everyone to enjoy near the water.

On Saturday, members from the Bunbury Swimming Club took to the pool for a carnival-like competition, while a number of officials were on hand to teach competitors some skills.
