The results of two individual reports looking at housing affordability and the cost of living in WA show promising signs for people in the South West.

The Bankwest First Time Buyer Report shows that two local government areas in the region are ranked among the top 10 places for taking the least amount of time to save for a deposit on a house or a unit.

Collie and Bunbury are two of the strongest local economies in the South West and this is being reflected by their relative housing affordability.

What is surprising is that Busselton, 50km down the road from Bunbury, is ranked among the top 10 areas where it takes the most time for couples to afford a unit deposit.

According to the report, it takes people buying in Busselton more than half a year longer to afford a deposit compared to Bunbury buyers.

More good news for the region came with the results of the WA Council of Social Service Cost of Living Report.

According to that report residents of the South West are paying, on average, less for water and food and beverages than every other part of regional WA except for the Great Southern and the Peel regions.

The findings of both reports show that people in this region are on to a good thing.

Hopefully these trends will continue and we will see further growth, not only in terms of residents, but in the local economy and industries as well.

The South West is a magnificent place to live and this has been reflected in the results of both of these nationwide reports.
