Bunbury gin-lovers will soon be able to create their own personal distillations, thanks to a new workshop experience from local favourites Cuprum Distillery.

Next month, the Cuprum team is set to launch their new gin making workshops — a unique, hands-on experience that will allow participants the opportunity to get behind the stills and create a one-of-a-kind gin to take home.

The 2½-hour workshops will cover the entire gin making process, with participants able to select and grind their botanicals from a range of native plants and herbs on offer, name and decorate the label of their personalised brew, before finishing off their creation with a wax seal ready to take home their own 500ml bottle of personalised gin.

In addition to the workshop, attendees with also get the chance to taste test a variety of Cuprum spirits and light food. Ticket prices are $150.

Head Distiller Rory Binnie said the idea of a workshop has been in the works for some time but he wanted to ensure he was offering customers the “perfect” experience.

“We’ll run through a bit of a class where we teach you how to make it, try your best and make a good gin,” he said.

“You’ll be given a mortar and pestle to help combine your botanicals and create a harmonious smell, and we’ll have our team on hand to help you get the right right balance too.

“It’s quite a personal experience when you come in and make the own gin . . . we’ll even have different colouring workstations where you can work on your bottle labels, and come up with a name for it.”

The first class will take place on February 24, with additional classes planned for March 10 and 24.

Mr Binnie said it would make a great evening out with friends, family or partners.

“If you have a girlfriend or a boyfriend it’s the perfect date night thing, or if a group of friends that wanted to go together it’s really catered to everyone quite nicely,” he said.

“All on a Friday night too, so a great way to kick-start your weekend.”

Tickets can be purchased via the distillery website, but if you’re keen to get your Cuprum fix before next month, the team are also partnering with the Bunbury Fringe to present a “buddy event” this Friday night.

The South West Opera Company will present Love, Lust and Drama, an enthralling musical theatre cabaret with classical and contemporary showtunes for all to love.

It comes as Cuprum joins Fringe for the third year in a row, also bringing a pop-up bar to the Fringe Garden where guests can purchase a variety of spirits and two limited edition cocktails — Purple Dreams and returning 2022 favourite Sweet Cheeks.
