Players have opportunity to meet Phoenix stars at carnival

Girls’ soccer is set to take centre stage at Leschenault Recreation Park with the Australind Junior Soccer Club set to host its biggest girls’ carnival yet. More than 30 teams from Perth and the South West will compete in the fourth annual Australind Girls’ Soccer Carnival on Satur-day. Co-ordinator Sarah Cornwall said the carnival was set to be the biggest one in its four years of running, almost doubling the numbers from the previous one in 2019. “We have 37 teams coming from Perth metro, locally and down south,” she said. “It’s very exciting that all these girls are coming together, mainly to celebrate soccer. “It’s not just about the competition, it’s about enjoyment and participation.” Along with the tournament, players will also have an opportunity to get to meet several South West Phoenix players who will be attending the carnival taking several training clinics and showing players where soccer can take them. Cornwall said carnival organisers were very grateful to have Southern Ports come on board as a sponsor. She also said she was very encouraged to hear about how much excitement had been building around the carnival in recent weeks. “I have been hearing from other clubs talking about how excited the girls are to come down and play on Saturday which just makes it even more special,” she said. “Clubs have even been talking to each other about the carnival while playing against each other in their own matches which has been great to hear.”
