Bunbury’s skyline will welcome the aerial talent of the nation’s finest pole vaulters next weekend, with the Pole Vault Street Meet set to generate exposure of the sport like never before.

Facilitated by Go Geo in collaboration with Athletics WA, vaulters will propel themselves high into the sky, with only the CBD skyline for company.

Ahead of the event, which will be held after day one of the WesTrac Bunbury Geographe Gift, Go Geo general manager Dylan Panizza was heartened by athlete and spectator interest.

“I just sat back and thought about what was the most exciting event I could have to bring people in,” he said.

“What I am trying to create is a high-energy and exciting reputation for Bunbury’s CBD and I really think this aligns with that vision.

“To have pole vaulting down the main street of Bunbury – this is something which is seldom done even in the biggest cities in the world.”

Panizza is hopeful the profile of the inaugural event will entice further interest from interstate or overseas athletes.

“With the Gift, we have seen a 54 per cent increase in competitor numbers this year,” he said.

“So we are growing exponentially – I’m hoping that as years go on, we could add to the pole vault event.”
